Performing Arts

Rome's greatest strength is perhaps its prose theater, but almost all offerings are in Italian.
English-language plays are almost never performed. Concerts are held in churches and historic sites and follow no definite schedule. Advertisements posted on buildings in the Historic Center announce upcoming classical music concerts, as well as pop and jazz shows. Also, the local papers usually carry information. Rome's standards are as high, if not higher, than other capitals in the field of opera. Dance companies, both classical and modern, perform to packed houses.
Tickets for a variety of shows are available at Orbis, Piazza dell'Esquilino 37.

The major concert hall in Rome is the Accademia Nazionale Santa Cecilia, which hosts various classical concerts, including chamber music, with different conductors.
Via della Conciliazione 4, (ticket 11:00 am-2:00 pm and 3:00 - 6:00 pm).

Well-known international dance companies (such as the New York City Ballet, Covent Garden Ballet of London and the Bolshoi of Moscow) perform at the Teatro dell'Opera and the Teatro dell'Opera Brancaccio.
Operas are performed at both houses from mid December to mid June. Performers at the Teatro dell'Opera are slightly more prestigious.
Buy tickets for dance and opera productions at the box office of the respective houses both open 10:30 am - 5:00 pm on non-performance days, and 2:30 pm - 8:45 pm on performance days.

Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia hosts symphonic concerts by the resident ensemble bearing the same name. Via della Conciliazione 4, (ticket 11:00 am - 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm).

Productions in English are sometimes staged at Teatro Agora. For performance times and offerings, check in the publication Un Ospite a Roma (A Guest in Rome), available at newsstands and the Rome Tourist Office.
